  17. Judgment on Moab

    Concerning Moab. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Woe to Nebo, for it is laid waste! Kiriathaim is put to shame, it is taken; the fortress is put to shame and broken down;
  18. Grieve for him, all you who are around him, and all who know his name; say, ‘How the mighty scepter is broken, the glorious staff.’
  19. Moab is put to shame, for it is broken; wail and cry! Tell it beside the Arnon, that Moab is laid waste.
  20. The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, declares the Lord.
  21. On all the housetops of Moab and in the squares there is nothing but lamentation, for I have broken Moab like a vessel for which no one cares, declares the Lord.
  22. How it is broken! How they wail! How Moab has turned his back in shame! So Moab has become a derision and a horror to all that are around him.”
  23. How the hammer of the whole earth is cut down and broken! How Babylon has become a horror among the nations!
  24. Suddenly Babylon has fallen and been broken; wail for her! Take balm for her pain; perhaps she may be healed.
  25. The warriors of Babylon have ceased fighting; they remain in their strongholds; their strength has failed; they have become women; her dwellings are on fire; her bars are broken.
  26. for a destroyer has come upon her, upon Babylon; her warriors are taken; their bows are broken in pieces, for the Lord is a God of recompense; he will surely repay.
  27. And all the army of the Chaldeans, who were with the captain of the guard, broke down all the walls around Jerusalem.
  28. And the pillars of bronze that were in the house of the Lord, and the stands and the bronze sea that were in the house of the Lord, the Chaldeans broke in pieces, and carried all the bronze to Babylon.
