Therefore, the Sovereign Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the Powerful One of Israel, says this: “Ah, I will seek vengeance against my adversaries, I will take revenge against my enemies.

Then the Lord provoked their adversaries to attack them, he stirred up their enemies—

O Lord, you are ready to act, but they don’t even notice. They will see and be put to shame by your angry judgment against humankind; yes, fire will consume your enemies.

Has the Lord struck down Israel as he did their oppressors? Has Israel been killed like their enemies?

When you will look for your opponents, you will not find them; your enemies will be reduced to absolutely nothing.

The Lord emerges like a hero, like a warrior he inspires himself for battle; he shouts, yes, he yells, he shows his enemies his power.

He repays them for what they have done, dispensing angry judgment to his adversaries and punishing his enemies. He repays the coastlands.

The Lord swears an oath by his right hand, by his strong arm: “I will never again give your grain to your enemies as food, and foreigners will not drink your wine, which you worked hard to produce.

The sound of battle comes from the city; the sound comes from the temple! It is the sound of the Lord paying back his enemies.

When you see this, you will be happy, and you will be revived. The Lord will reveal his power to his servants and his anger to his enemies.
