Psalm 2
God’s Promise to His Anointed
Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain?
-
Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage and the ends of the earth your possession.
-
You have rebuked the nations; you have destroyed the wicked; you have blotted out their name forever and ever.
-
The nations have sunk in the pit that they made; in the net that they hid has their own foot been caught.
-
The wicked shall depart to Sheol, all the nations that forget God.
-
Rise up, O Lord! Do not let mortals prevail; let the nations be judged before you.
-
Put them in fear, O Lord; let the nations know that they are only human. Selah
-
The Lord is king forever and ever; the nations shall perish from his land.
-
You delivered me from strife with the peoples; you made me head of the nations; people whom I had not known served me.
-
For this I will extol you, O Lord, among the nations and sing praises to your name.
-
All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall worship before him.
-
For dominion belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations.
-
The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples.
-
you with your own hand drove out the nations, but them you planted; you afflicted the peoples, but them you set free;
-
You have made us like sheep for slaughter and have scattered us among the nations.
-
You have made us a byword among the nations, a laughingstock among the peoples.
-
The nations are in an uproar; the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice; the earth melts.
-
“Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations; I am exalted in the earth.”
-
Psalm 47
God’s Rule over the Nations
To the leader. Of the Korahites. A Psalm.
Clap your hands, all you peoples; shout to God with loud songs of joy.
-
He subdued peoples under us and nations under our feet.
-
God is king over the nations; God sits on his holy throne.
-
I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations.
-
You, Lord God of hosts, are God of Israel. Awake to punish all the nations; spare none of those who treacherously plot evil. Selah
-
But you laugh at them, O Lord; you hold all the nations in derision.
-
who rules by his might forever, whose eyes keep watch on the nations— let the rebellious not exalt themselves. Selah
