Do not try to treat them as equals or trust their lengthy conversations, for they will test you by prolonged talk, and while they smile they will be examining you.

Do not trust in their survival or rely on their numbers, for one can be better than a thousand, and to die childless is better than to have ungodly children.

Against Loose Talk

One who trusts quickly has a shallow mind, and one who sins does wrong to himself.

Gain the trust of your neighbor in his poverty, so that you may rejoice with him in his prosperity. Stand by him in time of distress, so that you may share with him in his inheritance.
