  1. The king saw that they were pressing him hard, and under compulsion he handed Daniel over to them.
  2. Daniel in the Lions’ Den

    They threw Daniel into the lions’ den, and he was there for six days.
  3. There were seven lions in the den, and every day they had been given two human bodies and two sheep, but now they were given nothing, so that they would devour Daniel.
  4. But the angel of the Lord said to Habakkuk, “Take the food that you have to Babylon, to Daniel, in the lions’ den.”
  5. Then Habakkuk shouted, “Daniel, Daniel! Take the food that God has sent you.”
  6. Daniel said, “You have remembered me, O God, and have not abandoned those who love you.”
  7. So Daniel got up and ate. And the angel of God immediately returned Habakkuk to his own place.
  8. On the seventh day the king came to mourn for Daniel. When he came to the den he looked in, and there sat Daniel!
  9. The king shouted with a loud voice, “You are great, O Lord, the God of Daniel, and there is no other besides you!”
  10. Then he pulled Daniel out and threw into the den those who had attempted his destruction, and they were instantly eaten before his eyes.
  11. Daniel, because of his innocence, was delivered from the mouth of the lions.
  12. Daniel, who through envious slanders was thrown down into the ground to lions as food for wild animals, you brought up to the light unharmed.
  13. The eagle that you saw coming up from the sea is the fourth kingdom that appeared in a vision to your brother Daniel.
  14. The lions surrounding Daniel were not so savage nor was the raging fiery furnace of Mishael so intensely hot as was her innate parental love consuming her as she saw her seven sons tortured in such varied ways.
  15. Daniel the righteous was thrown to the lions, and Hananiah, Azariah, and Mishael were hurled into the fiery furnace and endured it for the sake of God.
  16. He praised Daniel in the den of the lions and blessed him.
