  11. All these, who were chosen as gatekeepers at the thresholds, were 212. They were enrolled by genealogies in their villages. David and Samuel the seer established them in their office of trust.
  12. So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord. And they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord by Samuel.
  13. Of the Levites 4,600.
  14. Of the Ephraimites 20,800, mighty men of valor, famous men in their fathers' houses.
  15. Of Issachar, men who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, 200 chiefs, and all their kinsmen under their command.
  16. Of the Danites 28,600 men equipped for battle.
  17. Of Asher 40,000 seasoned troops ready for battle.
  18. Of the Reubenites and Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh from beyond the Jordan, 120,000 men armed with all the weapons of war.
  19. of the sons of Kohath, Uriel the chief, with 120 of his brothers;
  20. of the sons of Merari, Asaiah the chief, with 220 of his brothers;
  21. of the sons of Elizaphan, Shemaiah the chief, with 200 of his brothers;
  22. But that same night the word of the Lord came to Nathan,
  23. And David took from him 1,000 chariots, 7,000 horsemen, and 20,000 foot soldiers. And David hamstrung all the chariot horses, but left enough for 100 chariots.
  24. And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down 22,000 men of the Syrians.
  25. And the Syrians fled before Israel, and David killed of the Syrians the men of 7,000 chariots and 40,000 foot soldiers, and put to death also Shophach the commander of their army.
