  9. And if you walk in obedience to me and keep my decrees and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life.”
  10. He then gave an order: “Cut the living child in two and give half to one and half to the other.”
  11. The woman whose son was alive was deeply moved out of love for her son and said to the king, “Please, my lord, give her the living baby! Don’t kill him!” But the other said, “Neither I nor you shall have him. Cut him in two!”
  12. Then the king gave his ruling: “Give the living baby to the first woman. Do not kill him; she is his mother.”
  13. When all Israel heard the verdict the king had given, they held the king in awe, because they saw that he had wisdom from God to administer justice.
  14. But now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side, and there is no adversary or disaster.

  20. “When they sin against you—for there is no one who does not sin—and you become angry with them and give them over to their enemies, who take them captive to their own lands, far away or near;
  21. “Praise be to the Lord, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses.
  22. “But if you or your descendants turn away from me and do not observe the commands and decrees I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them,
  23. then I will cut off Israel from the land I have given them and will reject this temple I have consecrated for my Name. Israel will then become a byword and an object of ridicule among all peoples.
  24. But when Hiram went from Tyre to see the towns that Solomon had given him, he was not pleased with them.
  25. “What kind of towns are these you have given me, my brother?” he asked. And he called them the Land of Kabul, a name they have to this day.
