Saul and Jonathan, beloved and lovely! In life and in death they were not divided; they were swifter than eagles; they were stronger than lions.

I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan; greatly beloved were you to me; your love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.

Now may the Lord show steadfast love and faithfulness to you! And I, too, will reward you because you have done this thing.

But I will not take my steadfast love from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you.

Solomon Is Born

Then David consoled his wife Bathsheba and went to her and lay with her, and she bore a son, and he named him Solomon. The Lord loved him

Amnon and Tamar

Some time passed. David’s son Absalom had a beautiful sister whose name was Tamar, and David’s son Amnon fell in love with her.

He said to him, “O son of the king, why are you so haggard morning after morning? Will you not tell me?” Amnon said to him, “I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.”

When King David heard of all these things, he became very angry, but he would not punish his son Amnon because he loved him, for he was his firstborn.

You came only yesterday, and shall I today make you wander about with us while I go wherever I can? Go back, and take your kinsfolk with you, and may the Lord show steadfast love and faithfulness to you.”

for love of those who hate you and for hatred of those who love you. You have made it clear today that commanders and officers are nothing to you, for I perceive that, if Absalom were alive and all of us were dead today, then you would be pleased.

He is a tower of salvation for his king and shows steadfast love to his anointed, to David and his descendants forever.”
