  1. And David brought up his men who were with him, each with his household; and they settled in the cities of Hebron.

  6. The elders of his household stood beside him in order to help him up from the ground, but he was unwilling and would not eat food with them.
  7. So the king left, and all his household with him; but the king left ten concubines behind to take care of the house.
  8. And the king said to Ziba, “Why do you have these?” And Ziba said, “The donkeys are for the king’s household to ride, the bread and summer fruit are for the young men to eat, and the wine, for whoever is weary in the wilderness to drink.”
  9. Then they crossed the shallow places repeatedly to bring over the king’s household, and to do what was good in his sight. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king as he was about to cross the Jordan.
  10. For all my father’s household was only people worthy of death to my lord the king; yet you placed your servant among those who ate at your own table. So what right do I still have, that I should complain anymore to the king?”
  11. And behold, all the men of Israel came to the king and said to the king, “Why have our brothers, the men of Judah, abducted you and brought the king and his household and all David’s men with him, over the Jordan?”
