Vows Made by Women
Moses said to the heads of the tribes of the people of Israel, “This is what the Lord has commanded.
-
When a man vows a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.
-
Or when a woman vows a vow to the Lord, and binds herself by a pledge, while within her father’s house, in her youth,
-
and her father hears of her vow and of her pledge by which she has bound herself, and says nothing to her; then all her vows shall stand, and every pledge by which she has bound herself shall stand.
-
And if she is married to a husband, while under her vows or any thoughtless utterance of her lips by which she has bound herself,
-
and her husband hears of it, and says nothing to her on the day that he hears; then her vows shall stand, and her pledges by which she has bound herself shall stand.
-
and her husband heard of it, and said nothing to her, and did not oppose her; then all her vows shall stand, and every pledge by which she bound herself shall stand.
-
But if her husband makes them null and void on the day that he hears them, then whatever proceeds out of her lips concerning her vows, or concerning her pledge of herself, shall not stand: her husband has made them void, and the Lord will forgive her.
-
But if her husband says nothing to her from day to day, then he establishes all her vows, or all her pledges, that are upon her; he has established them, because he said nothing to her on the day that he heard of them.
-
You will make your prayer to him, and he will hear you; and you will pay your vows.
-
From thee comes my praise in the great congregation; my vows I will pay before those who fear him.
-
Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and pay your vows to the Most High;
-
My vows to thee I must perform, O God; I will render thank offerings to thee.
-
For thou, O God, hast heard my vows, thou hast given me the heritage of those who fear thy name.
-
So will I ever sing praises to thy name, as I pay my vows day after day.

Praise is due to thee, O God, in Zion; and to thee shall vows be performed,
-
I will come into thy house with burnt offerings; I will pay thee my vows,
-
Make your vows to the Lord your God, and perform them; let all around him bring gifts to him who is to be feared,
-
I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people.
-
I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people,
-
“I had to offer sacrifices, and today I have paid my vows;
-
It is a snare for a man to say rashly, “It is holy,” and to reflect only after making his vows.
-
What, my son? What, son of my womb? What, son of my vows?
-
And the Lord will make himself known to the Egyptians; and the Egyptians will know the Lord in that day and worship with sacrifice and burnt offering, and they will make vows to the Lord and perform them.

What right has my beloved in my house, when she has done vile deeds? Can vows and sacrificial flesh avert your doom? Can you then exult?
