  1. This is My covenant, which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: every male among you shall be circumcised.
  2. And you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be the sign of the covenant between Me and you.
  3. And every male among you who is eight days old shall be circumcised throughout your generations, including a slave who is born in the house or who is bought with money from any foreigner, who is not of your descendants.
  4. A slave who is born in your house or who is bought with your money shall certainly be circumcised; so My covenant shall be in your flesh as an everlasting covenant.

  6. Then Abraham took his son Ishmael, and all the slaves who were born in his house and all who were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham’s household, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin on this very same day, as God had said to him.
  7. Now Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.
  8. And his son Ishmael was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.
  9. On this very same day Abraham was circumcised, as well as his son Ishmael.
  10. And all the men of his household, those who were born in the house or bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.
  11. Then Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.
  12. Only on this condition will we consent to you: if you will become like us, in that every male of you will be circumcised,
  13. But if you do not listen to us to be circumcised, then we will take our daughter and go.”
  14. Only on this condition will the men consent to us to live with us, to become one people: that every male among us be circumcised just as they are circumcised.
  15. All who went out of the gate of his city listened to Hamor and to his son Shechem, and every male was circumcised, all who went out of the gate of his city.
  16. but as for every slave that someone has purchased with money, after you have circumcised him, then he may eat it.

  19. Israel Is Circumcised

    Now it came about when all the kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan to the west, and all the kings of the Canaanites who were by the sea, heard how the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan before the sons of Israel until they had crossed, that their hearts melted, and there was no spirit in them any longer because of the sons of Israel.
  20. So Joshua made himself flint knives and circumcised the sons of Israel at Gibeath-haaraloth.
  21. This is the reason why Joshua circumcised them: all the people who came out of Egypt who were males, all the men of war, died in the wilderness along the way after they came out of Egypt.
  22. For all the people who came out were circumcised, but all the people who were born in the wilderness along the way as they came out of Egypt had not been circumcised.
  23. So their children whom He raised up in their place, Joshua circumcised; for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them along the way.
