Six Days of Creation and the Sabbath
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
-
And God called the firmament Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.
-
And God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so.
-
And God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to separate the day from the night; and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years,
-
and let them be lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so.
-
And God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light upon the earth,
-
And God said, “Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the firmament of the heavens.”
-
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
-
These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created.
Another Account of the Creation
In the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,
-
For behold, I will bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall die.
-
In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens were opened.
-
And the waters prevailed so mightily upon the earth that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered;
-
the fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens were closed, the rain from the heavens was restrained,
-
Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.”
-
And he blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, maker of heaven and earth;
-
But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have sworn to the Lord God Most High, maker of heaven and earth,
-
And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”
-
Then the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomor′rah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven;
-
And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, and said to her, “What troubles you, Hagar? Fear not; for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is.
-
But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here am I.”
-
And the angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven,
-
I will indeed bless you, and I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore. And your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies,
-
and I will make you swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell,
-
The Lord, the God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house and from the land of my birth, and who spoke to me and swore to me, ‘To your descendants I will give this land,’ he will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there.
-
I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven, and will give to your descendants all these lands; and by your descendants all the nations of the earth shall bless themselves:
