The People of God Dwell in Unity

A song of ascents. Of David.[a]

133 Look, how good and how pleasant it is
when brothers dwell together in unity.
It is like the fragrant oil upon the head,
running down upon the beard, the beard of Aaron,
that runs down upon the edges of his robes.
It is like the dew of Hermon that runs down
upon the mountains of Zion,
because there Yahweh commanded the blessing—
life forever.

Footnotes

  1. Psalm 133:1 The Hebrew Bible counts the superscription as the first verse of the psalm

Psalm 133

A pilgrimage song. Of David.

133 Look at how good and pleasing it is
when families[a] live together as one!
It is like expensive oil poured over the head,
    running down onto the beard—
        Aaron’s beard!—
which extended over the collar of his robes.
It is like the dew on Mount Hermon
streaming down onto the mountains of Zion,
because it is there that the Lord has commanded the blessing:
        everlasting life.

Footnotes

  1. Psalm 133:1 Or brothers (and sisters); the term often encompasses extended family relationships.
