¹⁴ They ·make evil plans in their hearts [^Lare perverse in their hearts and determined to do evil]
    and are always starting ·arguments [conflicts].
¹⁵ So ·trouble [disaster] will strike them in an instant;
    suddenly they will be so ·hurt [^Lbroken] no one can ·help [^Lheal] them.

¹⁰ A wink may ·get you into [or cause] trouble,
and foolish talk will lead to your ruin.

¹¹ The ·words [^Lmouth] of a ·good [righteous] person ·give life, like a fountain of water [^Lis a fountain of life],
but the ·words [^Lmouth] of the wicked ·contain nothing but [conceals] violence.

³ ·Good people [People with integrity] will be guided by ·honesty [innocence];
dishonesty will ·destroy [devastate] those who are not trustworthy.

³⁰ Someone who winks their eye is planning ·evil [perverse things],
and the one who ·grins [^Lpurses/narrows their lips] is ·planning something wrong [concealing evil].

¹⁴ Buyers say, “·This is bad. It’s no good [^LBad, bad].”
Then they go away and brag about what they bought.

⁶ Don’t eat the food of ·selfish [stingy; ^Levil eye] people;
    don’t ·be greedy [long] for their ·fine foods [delicacies].
⁷ ·Selfish people are always worrying
    about how much the food costs [^LThey calculate in their minds; or They are like a hair in the throat].
They tell you, “Eat and drink,”
    but ·they don’t really mean it [^Ltheir heart is not with you].
⁸ You will ·throw up [vomit] the ·little [^Lcrust] you have eaten,
    and you will have wasted your ·kind [pleasant] words.

²³ ·Kind words [^LSmooth lips] from a wicked ·mind [^Lheart]
are like ·a shiny [silver] coating on a clay pot.

²⁴ Those who hate you may try to ·fool [trick] you with their ·words [^Llips],
    but ·in their minds [inside] they ·are planning evil [^Lset deception].
²⁵ People’s ·words [^Lvoice] may be ·kind [gracious], but don’t believe them,
    because ·their minds are full of evil thoughts [^Lseven abominations are in their heart; ^Cseven is the number of completion].
²⁶ ·Lies [Trickery; Guile] can ·hide [cover] hate,
    but the evil will be ·plain to everyone [^Lrevealed in the assembly].
