¹⁴ Do not set foot on the path of the wicked
    or walk in the way of evildoers.^(A)
15 Avoid it, do not travel on it;
    turn from it and go on your way.
¹⁶ For they cannot rest until they do evil;^(B)
    they are robbed of sleep till they make someone stumble.
¹⁷ They eat the bread of wickedness
    and drink the wine of violence.^(C)

¹⁸ The path of the righteous^(D) is like the morning sun,^(E)
    shining ever brighter till the full light of day.^(F)
19 But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness;^(G)
    they do not know what makes them stumble.^(H)

²² The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them;^(A)
    the cords of their sins hold them fast.^(B)
23 For lack of discipline they will die,^(C)
    led astray by their own great folly.^(D)

¹² A troublemaker and a villain,
    who goes about with a corrupt mouth,
¹³     who winks maliciously with his eye,^(A)
    signals with his feet
    and motions with his fingers,^(B)
14     who plots evil^(C) with deceit in his heart—
    he always stirs up conflict.^(D)
15 Therefore disaster will overtake him in an instant;^(E)
    he will suddenly^(F) be destroyed—without remedy.^(G)

⁶ Blessings crown the head of the righteous,
    but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked.^[a](A)

⁷ The name of the righteous^(B) is used in blessings,^[b]
    but the name of the wicked^(C) will rot.^(D)

²⁴ What the wicked dread^(A) will overtake them;^(B)
    what the righteous desire will be granted.^(C)

²⁵ When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone,
    but the righteous stand firm^(D) forever.^(E)

²⁶ As vinegar to the teeth and smoke^(F) to the eyes,
    so are sluggards to those who send them.^(G)

²⁷ The fear of the Lord adds length to life,^(H)
    but the years of the wicked are cut short.^(I)

²⁸ The prospect of the righteous is joy,
    but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.^(J)

²⁹ The way of the Lord is a refuge for the blameless,
    but it is the ruin of those who do evil.^(K)

³⁰ The righteous will never be uprooted,
    but the wicked will not remain in the land.^(L)

¹⁰ When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices;^(A)
    when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.^(B)

¹¹ Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted,^(C)
    but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed.^(D)

⁵ The plans of the righteous are just,
    but the advice of the wicked is deceitful.

⁶ The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood,
    but the speech of the upright rescues them.^(A)

⁷ The wicked are overthrown and are no more,^(B)
    but the house of the righteous stands firm.^(C)

¹⁰ The righteous care for the needs of their animals,^(A)
    but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.
