⁴Those who forsake the law praise the wicked;
but those who keep the law contend with them.

⁴Those who abandon Instruction praise the wicked,
but those who follow Instruction battle them.

⁷Whoever keeps the law is a wise son;
but he who is a companion of gluttons shames his father.

⁷Intelligent children follow Instruction,
but those who befriend gluttons shame their parents.

⁹He who turns away his ear from hearing the law,
even his prayer is an abomination.

⁹Those who turn their ears from hearing Instruction—
even their prayers will be detested.

¹⁸Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint;
but one who keeps the law is blessed.

¹⁸When there’s no vision, the people get out of control,
but whoever obeys instruction is happy.
