²⁸A lying tongue hates those it hurts;
and a flattering mouth works ruin.

American Standard Version

²⁸A lying tongue hateth those whom it hath ^[a]wounded;
And a flattering mouth worketh ruin.

¹⁶A tyrannical ruler lacks judgment.
One who hates ill-gotten gain will have long days.

¹⁶^[a]The prince that lacketh understanding is also a great oppressor;
But he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.

Proverbs 28:16 Or, O prince that lackest understanding and art a great oppressor, He etc.

¹⁰The bloodthirsty hate a man of integrity;
and they seek the life of the upright.

¹⁰The bloodthirsty hate him that is perfect;
^[a]And as for the upright, they seek his life.
