One who watches his way protects his ^[a]life.

International Standard Version

¹⁷The road of the upright circumvents evil,
and whoever watches how he lives^[a] preserves his life.

⁵^(A)Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse;
One who guards himself will be far from them.

⁵Thorns and snares lie in the path of the perverse person,
but whoever is cautious stays far away from them.
