¹² Hatred stirs up conflicts,
but love covers all offenses.^(A)

¹⁷ Better a meal of vegetables where there is love
than a fattened ox^(A) with hatred.^(B)

⁵ The one who mocks the poor insults his Maker,^(A)
and one who rejoices over calamity
will not go unpunished.^(B)

¹⁷ Don’t gloat when your enemy falls,
and don’t let your heart rejoice when he stumbles,^(A)
18 or the Lord will see, be displeased,
and turn His wrath away from him.

²¹ If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat,
and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink;^(A)
22 for you will heap burning coals on his head,
and the Lord will reward you.^(B)
