The shields of [a]his warriors are dyed red,
The warriors are dressed in (A)scarlet,
The chariots are fitted with [b]flashing steel
[c]When he is prepared to march,
And the juniper (B)spears are brandished.
The (C)chariots drive wildly in the streets,
They rush around in the [d]public squares;
Their appearance is like torches,
They drive back and forth like lightning flashes.
He remembers his (D)officers;
They (E)stumble in their advance,
They hurry to her wall,
And the [e]mantelet is set up.
The gates of the rivers are opened
And the palace sways back and forth.
It is set:
She is stripped, she is led away,
And her slave women are (F)sobbing like the sound of doves,
(G)Beating their [f]breasts.

Though Nineveh was like a pool of water throughout her days,
Yet they are fleeing;
“Stop, stop,”
But (H)no one turns back.
Plunder the silver,
Plunder the (I)gold!
For there is no end to the treasure—
Wealth from every kind of desirable object.
10 She is (J)emptied! Yes, she is desolate and waste!
(K)Hearts are melting and knees wobbling!
Also trembling is in [g]the entire body,
And all their (L)faces have become pale!

The shield of his mighty men is made red, the valiant men are in scarlet: the chariots [a]flash with steel in the day of his preparation, and the [b]cypress spears are brandished. The chariots rage in the streets; they rush to and fro in the broad ways: the appearance of them is like torches; they run like the lightnings. He remembereth his nobles: they stumble in their march; they make haste to the wall thereof, and the mantelet is prepared. The gates of the rivers are opened, and the palace is dissolved. [c]And it is decreed: she is uncovered, she is carried away; and her handmaids [d]moan as with the voice of doves, beating upon their [e]breasts.

But Nineveh hath been [f]from of old like a pool of water: yet they flee away. Stand, stand, they cry; but none [g]looketh back. Take ye the spoil of silver, take the spoil of gold; for there is no end of the store, the [h]glory of all goodly furniture. 10 She is empty, and void, and waste; and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and anguish is in all loins, and the faces of them all are waxed pale.
