The Lord is (A)slow to anger and great in power,
And the Lord will by no means leave the guilty unpunished.
In the (B)gale and the storm is His way,
And (C)clouds are the dust beneath His feet.
He (D)rebukes the sea and dries it up;
He dries up all the rivers.
(E)Bashan and Carmel wither,
The blossoms of Lebanon wither.
Mountains (F)quake because of Him,
And the hills (G)come apart;
Indeed the earth is (H)upheaved by His presence,
The (I)world and all the inhabitants in it.
(J)Who can stand before His indignation?
Who can endure the (K)burning of His anger?
His (L)wrath gushes forth like fire,
And the (M)rocks are broken up by Him.
The Lord is (N)good,
A stronghold in the day of trouble,
And (O)He knows those who take refuge in Him.
But with an (P)overflowing flood
He will make a complete end of [a]its site,
And will pursue His enemies into (Q)darkness.

  1. Nahum 1:8 I.e., Nineveh’s

The Lord is slow to anger and powerful,
    and he will never let the guilty[a] go unpunished.
The Lord’s path is in the windstorm and hurricane;
    thunderclouds are dust beneath his feet.
He rebukes the sea, and it evaporates;
    he dries up all the rivers.
Bashan and Carmel wither,
    while the flowers of Lebanon languish.
Mountains shake because of him,
    and the hills melt.
The earth goes into upheaval at his presence,
    as does the world with all of its inhabitants.
Who can stand before his fury?
    And who can endure his fierce anger?
His displeasure pours out like fire,
    and rocks are broken to pieces because of him.

The Lord’s Goodness in the Midst of Judgment

The Lord is good—
    a refuge in troubled times.[b]
He knows those who are confiding in him.
But with an overwhelming deluge he will bring utter desolation to Nineveh,[c]
    and his enemies he will pursue with darkness.
