Job 4:12-16

12 “And a word came stealing to me,
and my ear received the whisper from it.
13 Amid troubling thoughts from night visions,
at the falling of deep sleep on men,
14 dread met me, and trembling,
and it made many of my bones shake.
15 And a spirit glided before my face;
the hair of my flesh[a] bristled.
16 It stood still, but[b] I could not recognize its appearance;
a form was before[c] my eyes;
there was a hush, and I heard a voice:

12 “A message was confided[a] to me;
my ear caught a whisper of it.
13 Disquieting thoughts from dreams at night;
when deep sleep falls on everyone.[b]
14 A fear fell upon me, along with trembling
that caused all my bones to shake in terror.[c]
15 A spirit glided past me
and made the hair on my skin[d] to bristle.
16 It remained standing,
but I couldn’t recognize its appearance.
A form appeared before my eyes;
At first there was[e] silence, and then this voice:
