Job 36:16-21
Lexham English Bible
16 And what’s more, he allured you out of distress[a]
into a broad place, where in place of it was no constraint;
and what was set on your table is full of fatness.
17 But[b] you are obsessed with the judgment of the wicked;
judgment and justice take hold of you.
18 Yes,[c] it is wrath, so that it will not incite you into mockery;
and do not let the ransom’s greatness turn you aside.
19 Will your cry for help sustain you without distress,
or[d] all the efforts of your strength?
20 You must not long for the night,
to cut off people in their place.[e]
21 Take care, you must not turn to mischief,
for because of this you have been tried by misery.
Job 36:16-21
International Standard Version
God is an All-Powerful and Just Teacher
16 “Indeed, he drew you away from the brink of distress
to a spacious place without constraints,
filling your festive[a] table with bountiful[b] food.
17 But now you are occupied with the case of the wicked;
but justice and judgment will be served.
18 So that no one entices you with riches,
don’t let a large ransom turn you astray.
19 “Will your wealth sustain you when you’re in distress,
despite your most powerful efforts?[c]
20 Don’t long for night,
when people vanish[d] in their place.
21 Be careful! Don’t turn to evil,
because of this you will be tried by more than affliction.
