Job 30:20-26
New American Standard Bible
20 I (A)cry out to You for help, but You do not answer me;
I stand up, and You turn Your attention against me.
21 You have [a]become cruel to me;
With the strength of Your hand You (B)persecute me.
22 You (C)lift me up to the wind and make me ride it;
And You dissolve me in a storm.
23 For I know that You (D)will bring me to death,
And to the (E)house of meeting for all living.
24 “Yet does one in a heap of ruins not reach out with his hand,
Or in his disaster does he not (F)cry out for help?
25 Have I not (G)wept for the [b]one whose life is hard?
Was my soul not grieved for (H)the needy?
26 When I (I)expected good, evil came;
When I waited for light, (J)darkness came.
Job 30:20-26
Common English Bible
20 I cry to you, and you don’t answer;
I stand up, but you just look at me.
21 You are cruel to me,
attack me with the strength of your hand.
22 You lift me to the wind and make me ride;
you melt me in its roar.
23 I know you will return me to death,
the house appointed for all the living.
Job’s agony
24 Surely he won’t strike someone in ruins
if in distress he cries out to him,
25 if I didn’t weep for those who have a difficult day
or my soul grieve for the needy;
26 for I awaited good, but evil came;
I expected light, but gloom arrived.
