Expanded Bible
Job Continues
29 Job continued ·to speak [L his discourse; 27:1]:
2 “How I wish for the months ·that have passed [of old]
and the days when God ·watched over [protected; guarded] me.
3 God’s lamp shined ·on [or over] my head,
and I walked ·through [in] darkness by his light.
4 I wish for the days when I was ·strong [in the prime of my life],
when God’s close friendship ·blessed my house [L was over my tent].
5 ·The Almighty [Shaddai] was still with me,
and my children were all around me.
6 It was as if my ·path [or steps] were covered with ·cream [or butter]
and the rocks poured out olive oil for me [C representing his earlier prosperity; 1:1–5].

Job’s Past Was Glorious
29 Job again took up his (A)discourse and said,
2 “Oh that I were as in months gone by,
As in the days when God (B)watched over me;
3 When (C)His lamp shone over my head,
And (D)by His light I walked through darkness;
4 Just as I was in the days of my youth,
When the (E)protection of God was over my tent;
5 When [a]the Almighty was still with me,
And my children were around me;
6 When my steps were bathed in (F)cream,
And the (G)rock poured out streams of oil for me!
