Job 16:22-17:9
New American Standard Bible
22 For when a few years are past,
I shall go the way (A)of no return.
Job Says He Has Become a Proverb
17 “My spirit is broken, my days are extinguished,
The [a](B)grave is ready for me.
2 (C)Mockers are certainly with me,
And my eye [b]gazes on their provocation.
3 “Make a pledge (D)for me with Yourself;
Who is there that will [c]be my guarantor?
4 For You have [d](E)kept their hearts away from understanding;
Therefore You will not exalt them.
5 He who (F)informs against friends for a share of the spoils,
The (G)eyes of his children also will perish.
6 “But He has made me a (H)proverb among the people,
And I am [e]one at whom people (I)spit.
7 My eye has also become (J)inexpressive because of grief,
And all my (K)body parts are like a shadow.
8 The upright will be appalled at this,
And the (L)innocent will stir himself up against the godless.
9 Nevertheless (M)the righteous will hold to his way,
And (N)the one who has clean hands will grow stronger and stronger.
Job 16:22-17:9
American Standard Version
22 For when a few years are come,
I shall go the way whence I shall not return.
17 My spirit is consumed, my days are extinct,
The grave is ready for me.
2 Surely there are [a]mockers with me,
And mine eye dwelleth upon their provocation.
3 Give now a pledge, be surety for me with thyself;
Who is there that will strike hands with me?
4 For thou hast hid their heart from understanding:
Therefore shalt thou not exalt them.
5 He that denounceth his friends for a [b]prey,
Even the eyes of his children shall fail.
6 But he hath made me a byword of the people;
And they spit in my face.
7 Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow,
And all my members are as a shadow.
8 Upright men shall be astonished at this,
And the innocent shall stir up himself against the godless.
9 Yet shall the righteous hold on his way,
And he that hath clean hands shall wax stronger and stronger.
