Job 14:7-12
Lexham English Bible
7 “Indeed, there is hope for a tree:
if it is cut down, then[a] it will sprout again,
and its new shoots will not cease;
8 though its root grows old in the earth,
and its stump dies in the dust,
9 at[b] the scent of water it will bud,
and it will put forth branches like a young plant.
10 “But[c] a man dies, and he dwindles away;
thus[d] a human being passes away, and where is he?[e]
11 As water disappears from a lake,
and a river withers away and dries up,[f]
12 so[g] a man lies down, and he does not arise.
Until the heavens are no more,[h] they will not awaken,
and they will not be roused out of their sleep.
Job 14:7-12
New American Standard Bible
7 “For there is hope for a tree,
When it is cut down, that it will sprout again,
And its shoots will not [a]fail.
8 Though its roots grow old in the ground,
And its stump dies in the dry soil,
9 At the scent of water it will flourish
And produce sprigs like a plant.
10 But (A)a man dies and lies prostrate.
A person (B)passes away, and where is he?
11 As (C)water [b]evaporates from the sea,
And a river becomes parched and dried up,
12 So (D)a man lies down and does not rise.
Until the heavens no longer exist,
[c]He will not awake nor be woken from [d]his sleep.
