In those days and in that time,’” declares[a] Yahweh,
“the people[b] of Israel will come,
they and the people[c] of Judah together.
Weeping as they go,[d] they will go,
and Yahweh their God they will seek.
They will ask the way to Zion,
    turning their faces there.
They will come and join themselves to Yahweh
by an everlasting covenant[e] that will not be forgotten.
My people have become lost sheep,
their shepherds have caused them to go astray.
They led them away to the mountains.
From mountain to hill they have gone,
they have forgotten their resting place.
All those who found them have devoured them.
And their foes have said, ‘We are not guilty,
because[f] they have sinned against Yahweh, the true pasture,[g]
even Yahweh, the hope of their ancestors.’[h]
Flee from the midst of Babylon,
and from the land of the Chaldeans.
Go out and be like he-goats
    before[i] the flock.
For look, I am going to stir up,
and I am going to bring against Babylon
a contingent of great nations
from the land of the north.
And they will draw up a battle formation against her,
from there she will be captured.
Their arrows are like a warrior who has achieved success,
he does not return without success.
10 And Chaldea will be as booty,
all those who plunder her will be satisfied,” declares[j] Yahweh.

and will seek the Lord their God.(B)
They will ask about Zion,
turning their faces to this road.
They will come and join themselves[a] to the Lord
in a permanent covenant(C) that will never be forgotten.

My people were lost sheep;(D)
their shepherds led them astray,(E)
guiding them the wrong way in the mountains.(F)
They wandered from mountain to hill;
they forgot their resting place.
Whoever found them devoured them.
Their adversaries said, “We’re not guilty;
instead, they have sinned against the Lord,
their righteous grazing land,(G)
the hope of their ancestors,(H) the Lord.”

Escape from Babylon;(I)
depart from the Chaldeans’ land.
Be like the rams that lead the flock.
For I will soon stir up and bring against Babylon(J)
an assembly of great nations from the north country.
They will line up in battle formation against her;(K)
from there she will be captured.
Their arrows will be like a skilled[b] warrior
who does not return empty-handed.
