For thus says Yahweh
    to the men[a] of Judah and to Jerusalem,
“Break up for yourselves prepared virgin soil,
    and you must not sow among thornbushes.
Circumcise yourselves to Yahweh,
    and remove the foreskins of your hearts,[b]
men[c] of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem,
    lest my wrath goes forth like the fire and burns,
and there is no one who extinguishes it,[d]
    because of the evil of your deeds.”

This is what the Lord says to the people of Judah and to the residents of Jerusalem:

Break up your hard rocky soil;
    don’t plant among the thorns.
Dedicate[a] yourselves to the Lord;
    don’t be thick-skinned,[b]
        people of Judah and residents of Jerusalem,
    or else my anger will spread like a wildfire.
        It will burn, with no one to put it out,
        because of your evil deeds.
