Jeremiah 23:25-32

25 “I have heard what the prophets who prophesy lies[a] have said in my name, saying,[b] ‘I have dreamed! I have dreamed!’ 26 How long[c] will this be in the hearts[d] of the prophets who prophesy lies,[e] even the prophets of the deceitfulness of their hearts,[f] 27 who plan to make my people forget my name by their dreams that they tell each one to his neighbor, just as their ancestors[g] forgot my name through Baal? 28 The prophet who has with him a dream, let him tell the dream. But the prophet[h] who has my word with him, let him speak my word faithfully. What is straw compared to wheat?”[i] declares[j] Yahweh. 29 “Is not my word like fire?” declares[k] Yahweh, “and like a blacksmith’s hammer that breaks a rock into pieces?
30 “Therefore[l] look, I am against the prophets,” declares[m] Yahweh, “who steal my words each one from his neighbor. 31 Look, I am against the prophets,” declares[n] Yahweh, “who take their tongues[o] and declare as prophets, ‘Yahweh declares.’[p] 32 Look, I am against those who prophesy dreams of lies,”[q] declares[r] Yahweh, “and tell them, and they caused my people to err through their lies, and in their recklessness, when I myself have not sent them nor commanded them, so they profit not this people at all,” declares[s] Yahweh.

25 “I have heard what the prophets have said, who prophesy lies in my name, saying, ‘I had a dream! I had a dream!’ 26 How long will this be in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies, even the prophets of the deceit of their own heart? 27 They intend to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they each tell his neighbor, as their fathers forgot my name because of Baal. 28 The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream; and he who has my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the straw to the wheat?” says Yahweh. 29 “Isn’t my word like fire?” says Yahweh; “and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?
30 “Therefore behold, I am against the prophets,” says Yahweh, “who each steal my words from his neighbor. 31 Behold, I am against the prophets,” says Yahweh, “who use their tongues, and say, ‘He says.’ 32 Behold, I am against those who prophesy lying dreams,” says Yahweh, “who tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their vain boasting; yet I didn’t send them or command them. They don’t profit this people at all,” says Yahweh.
