24 Therefore this is what the Lord [a]God of armies says: “My people, you who dwell in (A)Zion, (B)do not fear the Assyrian [b]who (C)strikes you with the rod, and lifts up his staff against you the way Egypt did. 25 For in a very (D)little while (E)My indignation against you will be ended and My anger will be directed toward their destruction.” 26 The Lord of armies will (F)wield a whip against him like the defeat of (G)Midian at the rock of Oreb; and His (H)staff will be over the sea, and He will lift it up (I)the way He did in Egypt. 27 So it will be on that day, that [c]his (J)burden will be removed from your shoulders, and his yoke from your neck; and the yoke will be broken because (K)of fatness.

28 He has come against Aiath,
He has passed through (L)Migron;
At (M)Michmash he deposited his (N)baggage.
29 They have gone through (O)the pass, saying,
(P)Geba will be our encampment for the night.”
(Q)Ramah is terrified, and (R)Gibeah of Saul has fled.
30 Cry aloud with your voice, daughter of (S)Gallim!
Pay attention, Laishah and [d]wretched (T)Anathoth!
31 Madmenah has fled.
The inhabitants of Gebim have sought refuge.
32 Yet today he will halt at (U)Nob;
He (V)shakes his fist at the mountain of the [e](W)daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.

33 Behold, the Lord, the [f]God of armies, will lop off the branches with terrifying power;
Those also who are (X)tall in stature will be cut down,
And those who are lofty will be brought low.
34 He will cut down the thickets of the forest with an iron axe,
And (Y)Lebanon will fall by the Mighty One.

24 Therefore, the Lord God of heavenly forces says: My people who live in Zion, don’t fear Assyria, which strikes you with the rod and raises its staff against you as Egypt did. 25 In a very short time my fury will end, and my anger at the world will be finished.[a]

26 Therefore, the Lord of heavenly forces will crack a whip against Assyria,
    as when he struck Midian at the rock of Oreb.
    He will raise a rod over the sea,
        as he did in Egypt.
27 On that day, God will remove the burden from your shoulder
    and destroy the yoke on your neck.[b]

The exalted laid low

He has gone up from Samaria,
28     come against Aiath,
    passed to Migron.
At Michmash he stored his equipment.
29 They crossed at the pass: “We’ll camp at Geba!”
    Ramah trembles; Gibeah of Saul has fled.
30 Cry aloud, Daughter Gallim!
    Listen, Laishah! Answer her, Anathoth!
31 Madmenah has flown.
    Gebim’s inhabitants sought refuge.
32 This very day he will stand at Nob
    and shake his fist[c] at Daughter Zion’s mountain,
    the hill of Jerusalem!
33 Look! The Lord God of heavenly forces
    is chopping off the branches with terrible power.
    The loftiest ones are about to be cut down
        and the exalted laid low.
34 He will strike down the forest thickets with an ax,
    and mighty Lebanon will fall.
