And he brought me to the doorway of the courtyard, and I saw, and look! A hole in the wall. And he said to me, “Son of man,[a] dig now[b] through the wall.” And I dug through the wall, and look! There was a doorway. And he said to me, “Come and see the detestable things, the evil that they are doing[c] here. 10 And I came, and I saw, and look, all kinds of creatures[d] and detestable beasts;[e] and all of the idols of the house of Israel were carved on the wall all around.[f] 11 And seventy men from the elders of the house of Israel, and Jaazaniah, the son of Shaphan, was standing in the midst of them, and they were standing before them.[g] Each one had his censer in his hand, and the fragrance of the cloud of the incense was going up. 12 And he said to me, “Have you seen, son of man,[h] what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, each in the inner rooms of his idol, for they are saying, ‘Yahweh is not seeing us; Yahweh has abandoned the land.’” 13 And he said to me, “Still you will see again[i] greater detestable things that they are doing.”

Then he brought me to the court entrance. When I looked, I saw a hole in the wall. He said to me: Human one, dig through the wall. So I dug through the wall, and I discovered a doorway. And he said to me: Go in and see what wicked and detestable things they are doing in there. 10 So I went in and looked, and I saw every form of loathsome beasts and creeping things and all the idols of the house of Israel engraved on the walls all around. 11 The seventy elders of the house of Israel were standing in front of them, and all of them were holding censers in their hands. Jaazaniah, Shaphan’s son, was standing right there with them, and the scent of the incense cloud rose up. 12 He said to me: Human one, do you see what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, every one of them in their rooms full of sculptured images? They say, “The Lord doesn’t see us; the Lord has abandoned the land.” 13 He said to me: You will see them performing even more detestable practices.
