That day Haman left full of joy and in good spirits.[a](A) But when Haman saw Mordecai at the King’s Gate, and Mordecai didn’t rise or tremble in fear at his presence, Haman was filled with rage toward Mordecai.(B) 10 Yet Haman controlled himself and went home. He sent for his friends and his wife Zeresh(C) to join him. 11 Then Haman described for them his glorious wealth and his many sons. He told them all how the king had honored him and promoted him in rank over the other officials and the royal staff.(D) 12 “What’s more,” Haman added, “Queen Esther invited no one but me to join the king at the banquet she had prepared. I am invited again tomorrow to join her with the king. 13 Still, none of this satisfies me since I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the King’s Gate all the time.”

14 His wife Zeresh and all his friends told him, “Have them build a gallows 75 feet[b] high.(E) Ask the king in the morning to hang Mordecai on it. Then go to the banquet with the king and enjoy yourself.” The advice pleased Haman, so he had the gallows constructed.(F)

Haman’s Plan to Kill Mordecai

Haman went out that day pleased and happy, but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king’s gate, and that he did not stand up and tremble in his presence, Haman was furious with Mordecai. 10 Haman restrained himself, went to his house, and sent for[a] his friends and his wife Zeresh. 11 Then Haman told them about his splendid wealth, the number[b] of his sons, all the ways the king had honored[c] him, and that he had promoted him above all the other officials and ministers[d] of the king.

12 Then Haman said, “Even Queen Esther brought no one except me with the king to the banquet that she held. Furthermore, I (along with the king) have also been invited by her tomorrow. 13 But all this does not satisfy me every time I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.”

14 Then Zeresh his wife and all his friends said, “Have a pole made 50 cubits[e] high, and then in the morning speak to the king and have Mordecai hanged[f] on it. Then go with the king to the banquet happy.” This advice pleased Haman, and he had the pole made.
