I was standing between Yahweh and you[a] at that time to report[b] to you the word of Yahweh, for you were afraid because of the presence of[c] the fire, and so you did not go up the mountain. He said,[d]

‘I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery. There shall not be for you other gods besides me.[e]

‘You shall not make for yourself a divine image of any type of form that is in the heaven above or that is on the earth beneath or that is in the water under the earth.

‘You shall not bow down to them, and you shall not serve them, for I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God, punishing the guilt of fathers upon their children and upon the third and upon the fourth generation of those hating me, 10 but showing loyal love to thousands of those who love me and of those who keep my commandments.

11 ‘You shall not take up the name of Yahweh your God for a worthless purpose, for Yahweh will not leave unpunished anyone who uses his name for a worthless purpose.

12 ‘Observe the Sabbath day[f] to make it holy,[g] just as Yahweh your God has commanded you. 13 Six days you shall work, and you shall do all of your work, 14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath unto Yahweh your God; you shall not do any work, or your son, or your daughter, or your slave, or your slave woman, or your ox, or your donkey, or any of your domestic animals, or your resident alien who is in your towns,[h] so that your slave and your slave woman may rest as you rest. 15 And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and Yahweh your God brought you out with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm; therefore, Yahweh your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath.[i]

16 ‘Honor your father and your mother, as Yahweh your God commanded you, so that it will be good for you[j] in the land[k] that Yahweh your God is giving to you.

17 ‘You shall not murder.

18 ‘And you shall not commit adultery.

19 ‘And you shall not steal.

20 ‘And you shall not falsely bear evidence against your neighbor.

21 ‘And you shall not covet the wife of your neighbor, and you shall not crave the house of your neighbor, his field or his slave or his slave woman or his ox and his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.’[l]

(A)I stood between the Lord and you at that time, to declare to you the word of the Lord; for (B)you were afraid because of the fire, and you did not go up the mountain. He said:

(C)‘I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of [a]bondage.

(D)‘You shall have no other gods [b]before Me.

(E)‘You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not (F)bow[c] down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, [d]visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 10 (G)but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and [e]keep My commandments.

11 (H)‘You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him [f]guiltless who takes His name in vain.

12 (I)‘Observe the Sabbath day, to [g]keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you. 13 (J)Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is the (K)Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. 15 (L)And remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there (M)by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.

16 (N)‘Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, (O)that your days may be long, and that it may be well with (P)you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

17 (Q)‘You shall not murder.

18 (R)‘You shall not commit adultery.

19 (S)‘You shall not steal.

20 (T)‘You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

21 (U)‘You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife; and you shall not desire your neighbor’s house, his field, his male servant, his female servant, his ox, his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.’
