Alliance Displeases God
35 (A)After this Jehoshaphat king of Judah allied himself with Ahaziah king of Israel. He acted wickedly [a]in so doing. 36 So he allied himself with him to make ships to go (B)to Tarshish, and they made the ships in Ezion-geber. 37 Then Eliezer the son of Dodavahu of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, “Because you have allied yourself with Ahaziah, the Lord has destroyed your works.” So the ships were wrecked and could not go to Tarshish.
Jehoram Succeeds Jehoshaphat in Judah
21 (C)Then Jehoshaphat [b]lay down with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David, and his son Jehoram became king in his place.

35 After this Jehosh′aphat king of Judah joined with Ahazi′ah king of Israel, who did wickedly. 36 He joined him in building ships to go to Tarshish, and they built the ships in E′zion-ge′ber. 37 Then Elie′zer the son of Dodav′ahu of Mare′shah prophesied against Jehosh′aphat, saying, “Because you have joined with Ahazi′ah, the Lord will destroy what you have made.” And the ships were wrecked and were not able to go to Tarshish.
Jehoram’s Reign
21 Jehosh′aphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David; and Jeho′ram his son reigned in his stead.
