20 Before they returned home, Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say, “May the Lord give you other children to take the place of this one she gave to the Lord.[a]” 21 And the Lord blessed Hannah, and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, Samuel grew up in the presence of the Lord.

20 Then Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say,[a] “May the Lord give[b] you descendants[c] from this woman in place of the one she dedicated[d] to the Lord.” Then they would return to their[e] home.[f]
21 The Lord took note of Hannah,[g] and she became pregnant and gave birth to[h] three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, the boy Samuel continued to grow,[i] and the Lord was constantly[j] with him.
