⁶ But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

The Faith of Moses^(A)

²³ By faith ^(B)Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s ^(C)command.

²⁴ By faith ^(D)Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, ²⁵ choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the ^[a]passing pleasures of sin, ²⁶ esteeming ^(E)the ^[b]reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures ^[c]in Egypt; for he looked to the ^(F)reward.

²⁷ By faith ^(G)he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible. ²⁸ By faith ^(H)he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest he who destroyed the firstborn should touch them.

²⁹ By faith ^(I)they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, whereas the Egyptians, attempting to do so, were drowned.

By Faith They Overcame

³⁰ By faith ^(J)the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days. ³¹ By faith ^(K)the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who ^[d]did not believe, when ^(L)she had received the spies with peace.

Faithful Abraham^(A)

⁸ By faith ^(B)Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. ⁹ By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, ^(C)dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, ^(D)the heirs with him of the same promise; ¹⁰ for he waited for ^(E)the city which has foundations, ^(F)whose builder and maker is God.

¹¹ By faith ^(G)Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and ^(H)she^[a] bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him ^(I)faithful who had promised.

⁹ And he said to his people, “Look, the people of the children of Israel are more and ^(A)mightier than we; ^10 (B)come, let us ^(C)deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and it happen, in the event of war, that they also join our enemies and fight against us, and so go up out of the land.” ¹¹ Therefore they set taskmasters over them ^(D)to afflict them with their ^(E)burdens. And they built for Pharaoh ^(F)supply cities, Pithom ^(G)and Raamses. ¹² But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were in dread of the children of Israel. ¹³ So the Egyptians made the children of Israel ^(H)serve with ^[a]rigor. ¹⁴ And they ^(I)made their lives bitter with hard bondage—^(J)in mortar, in brick, and in all manner of service in the field. All their service in which they made them serve was with rigor.
