³⁸ Peter said to them, “^(A)Repent, and each of you be ^(B)baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

³⁹ For ^(A)the promise is for you and your children and for all who are ^(B)far away, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.”

²² But the Scripture has ^(A)confined ^[a]everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

³⁹ And all these, having ^(A)gained approval through their faith, ^(B)did not receive ^[a]what was promised,

⁴⁰ because God had ^[a]provided ^(A)something better for us, so that ^(B)apart from us they would not be made perfect.
