^37 (A)Everything that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I certainly will not cast out. ³⁸ For ^(B)I have come down from heaven, ^(C)not to do My own will, but ^(D)the will of Him who ^(E)sent Me. ³⁹ And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that of ^(F)everything that He has given Me I will ^(G)lose nothing, but will ^(H)raise it up on the last day. ⁴⁰ For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who ^(I)sees the Son and ^(J)believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will ^(K)raise him up on the last day.”

Words to the Jews

^41 (L)So then the Jews were complaining about Him because He said, “I am the bread that ^(M)came down out of heaven.” ⁴² And they were saying, “^(N)Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother ^(O)we know? How does He now say, ‘^(P)I have come down out of heaven’?” ⁴³ Jesus answered and said to them, “Stop complaining among yourselves. ⁴⁴ No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me ^(Q)draws him; and I will ^(R)raise him up on the last day. ⁴⁵ It is written ^(S)in the Prophets: ‘^(T)And they shall all be ^(U)taught of God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me. ^46 (V)Not that anyone has seen the Father, except the One who is from God; He has seen the Father. ⁴⁷ Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who believes ^(W)has eternal life. ^48 (X)I am the bread of life. ^49 (Y)Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. ⁵⁰ This is the bread that ^(Z)comes down out of heaven, so that anyone may eat from it and ^(AA)not die. ^51 (AB)I am the living bread that ^(AC)came down out of heaven; if anyone eats from this bread, ^(AD)he will live forever; and the bread which I will give ^(AE)for the life of the world also is ^(AF)My flesh.”

^52 (AG)Then the Jews ^(AH)began to argue with one another, saying, “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?” ⁵³ So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of ^(AI)the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves. ⁵⁴ The one who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will ^(AJ)raise him up on the last day. ⁵⁵ For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. ⁵⁶ The one who eats My flesh and drinks My blood ^(AK)remains in Me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ Just as the ^(AL)living Father ^(AM)sent Me, and I live because of the Father, the one who eats Me, he also will live because of Me. ⁵⁸ This is the bread that ^(AN)came down out of heaven, not as ^(AO)the fathers ate and died; the one who eats this bread ^(AP)will live forever.”

Words to the Disciples

⁵⁹ These things He said ^(AQ)in the synagogue as He taught ^(AR)in Capernaum.

⁶⁰ So then many of His ^(AS)disciples, when they heard this, said, “^(AT)This statement is very ^[a]unpleasant; who can listen to it?” ⁶¹ But Jesus, ^(AU)aware that His disciples were complaining about this, said to them, “Is this ^[b](AV)offensive to you? ⁶² What then if you see ^(AW)the Son of Man ^(AX)ascending to where He was before? ^63 (AY)It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh provides no benefit; ^(AZ)the words that I have spoken to you are spirit, and are life. ⁶⁴ But there are ^(BA)some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus ^(BB)knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and ^(BC)who it was who would ^[c]betray Him. ⁶⁵ And He was saying, “For this reason I have ^(BD)told you that no one can come to Me unless ^(BE)it has been granted him from the Father.”

Peter’s Confession of Faith

⁶⁶ As a result of this many of His ^(BF)disciples ^(BG)left, and would no longer walk with Him.

^18 (A)I am not speaking about all of you. I know the ones whom I have ^(B)chosen; but this is happening ^(C)so that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘^(D)He who eats My bread has lifted up his heel against Me.’

^16 (A)You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and ^(B)bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that ^(C)whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.

⁶ “^(A)I have revealed Your name to the men whom ^(B)You gave Me out of the world; they were ^(C)Yours and You gave them to Me, and they have ^(D)followed Your word. ⁷ Now they have come to know that everything which You have given Me is from You; ⁸ for ^(E)the words which You gave Me ^(F)I have given to them; and they received them and truly understood that ^(G)I came forth from You, and they believed that ^(H)You sent Me. ^9 (I)I ask on their behalf; ^(J)I do not ask on behalf of the world, but on the behalf of those whom ^(K)You have given Me, because ^(L)they are Yours; ¹⁰ and ^(M)all things that are Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine; and I have been glorified in them. ¹¹ I am no longer going to be in the world; and yet ^(N)they themselves are in the world, and ^(O)I am coming to You. ^(P)Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name ^(Q)which You have given Me, so that ^(R)they may be one just as We are. ¹² While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name, ^(S)which You have given Me; and I guarded them, and ^(T)not one of them perished except ^(U)the ^[a]son of destruction, so that the ^(V)Scripture would be fulfilled.

The Disciples in the World

¹³ But now ^(W)I am coming to You; and ^(X)these things I speak in the world so that they may have My ^(Y)joy made full in themselves. ¹⁴ I have given them Your word; and ^(Z)the world has hated them because ^(AA)they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. ¹⁵ I am not asking You to take them out of the world, but to keep them away from ^[b](AB)the evil one. ^16 (AC)They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. ^17 (AD)Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. ¹⁸ Just as ^(AE)You sent Me into the world, ^(AF)I also sent them into the world. ¹⁹ And for their sakes I ^(AG)sanctify Myself, so that they themselves also may be ^(AH)sanctified ^(AI)in truth.

²⁰ “I am not asking on behalf of these alone, but also for those who believe in Me through their word, ²¹ that they may all be one; ^(AJ)just as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, ^(AK)so that the world may ^[c]believe that ^(AL)You sent Me.

Disciples’ Future Glory

²² The ^(AM)glory which You have given Me I also have given to them, so that they may be one, just as We are one; ^23 (AN)I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected ^[d]in unity, so that the world may ^[e]know that ^(AO)You sent Me, and You ^(AP)loved them, just as You loved Me. ²⁴ Father, I desire that ^(AQ)they also, whom You have given Me, ^(AR)be with Me where I am, so that they may see My ^(AS)glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before ^(AT)the foundation of the world.
