146 Shout praises to the Lord! With all that I am, I will shout his praises. 2 I will sing and praise the Lord God for as long as I live.
3 You can’t depend on anyone, not even a great leader. 4 Once they die and are buried, that will be the end of all their plans.
5 The Lord God of Jacob blesses everyone who trusts him and depends on him. 6 God made heaven and earth; he created the sea and everything else. God always keeps his word. 7 He gives justice to the poor and food to the hungry.
The Lord sets prisoners free 8 and heals blind eyes. He gives a helping hand to everyone who falls. The Lord loves good people 9 and looks after strangers. He defends the rights of orphans and widows, but destroys the wicked.
10 The Lord God of Zion will rule forever! Shout praises to the Lord!
Sing and Praise the Lord
147 Shout praises to the Lord! Our God is kind, and it is right and good to sing praises to him. 2 The Lord rebuilds Jerusalem and brings the people of Israel back home again. 3 He renews our hopes and heals our bodies. 4 He decided how many stars there would be in the sky and gave each one a name. 5 Our Lord is great and powerful! He understands everything. 6 The Lord helps the poor, but he smears the wicked in the dirt.
7 Celebrate and sing! Play your harps for the Lord our God. 8 He fills the sky with clouds and sends rain to the earth, so that the hills will be green with grass. 9 He provides food for cattle and for the young ravens, when they cry out. 10 The Lord doesn’t care about the strength of horses or powerful armies. 11 The Lord is pleased only with those who worship him and trust his love.
12 Everyone in Jerusalem, come and praise the Lord your God! 13 He makes your city gates strong and blesses your people by giving them children. 14 God lets you live in peace, and he gives you the very best wheat.
15 As soon as God speaks, the earth obeys. 16 He covers the ground with snow like a blanket of wool, and he scatters frost like ashes on the ground. 17 God sends down hailstones like chips of rocks. Who can stand the cold? 18 At his command the ice melts, the wind blows, and streams begin to flow.
19 God gave his laws and teachings to the descendants of Jacob, the nation of Israel. 20 But he has not given his laws to any other nation. Shout praises to the Lord!
1 Corinthians 15:1-28Contemporary English Version (CEV)
Christ Was Raised to Life
15 My friends, I want you to remember the message that I preached and that you believed and trusted. 2 You will be saved by this message, if you hold firmly to it. But if you don’t, your faith was all for nothing.
3 I told you the most important part of the message exactly as it was told to me. That part is:
Christ died for our sins, as the Scriptures say. 4 He was buried, and three days later he was raised to life, as the Scriptures say. 5 Christ appeared to Peter,[a] then to the twelve. 6 After this, he appeared to more than five hundred other followers. Most of them are still alive, but some have died. 7 He also appeared to James, and then to all of the apostles.
8 Finally, he appeared to me, even though I am like someone who was born at the wrong time.[b]
9 I am the least important of all the apostles. In fact, I caused so much trouble for God’s church that I don’t even deserve to be called an apostle. 10 But God was kind! He made me what I am, and his wonderful kindness wasn’t wasted. I worked much harder than any of the other apostles, although it was really God’s kindness at work and not me. 11 But it doesn’t matter if I preached or if they preached. All of you believed the message just the same.
God’s People Will Be Raised to Life
12 If we preach that Christ was raised from death, how can some of you say that the dead will not be raised to life? 13 If they won’t be raised to life, Christ himself wasn’t raised to life. 14 And if Christ wasn’t raised to life, our message is worthless, and so is your faith. 15 If the dead won’t be raised to life, we have told lies about God by saying that he raised Christ to life, when he really did not.
16 So if the dead won’t be raised to life, Christ wasn’t raised to life. 17 Unless Christ was raised to life, your faith is useless, and you are still living in your sins. 18 And those people who died after putting their faith in him are completely lost. 19 If our hope in Christ is good only for this life, we are worse off than anyone else.
20 But Christ has been raised to life! And he makes us certain that others will also be raised to life. 21 Just as we will die because of Adam, we will be raised to life because of Christ. 22 Adam brought death to all of us, and Christ will bring life to all of us. 23 But we must each wait our turn. Christ was the first to be raised to life, and his people will be raised to life when he returns. 24 Then after Christ has destroyed all powers and forces, the end will come, and he will give the kingdom to God the Father.
25 Christ will rule until he puts all his enemies under his power, 26 and the last enemy he destroys will be death. 27 When the Scriptures say that he will put everything under his power, they don’t include God. It was God who put everything under the power of Christ. 28 After everything is under the power of God’s Son, he will put himself under the power of God, who put everything under his Son’s power. Then God will mean everything to everyone.
