Isaiah 65-66 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
The Lord Will Punish the Guilty
65 I, the Lord, was ready
2 All day long I have reached out
8 Here is what the Lord says:
11 What will I, the Lord, do
13 I, the Lord God, will give
The Lord’s New Creation
17 I am creating new heavens
20 No child will die in infancy;
21 My people will live
25 Wolves and lambs
66 The Lord said:
Heaven is my throne;
The people I treasure most
3 You sacrifice oxen to me,
The Lord Will Help Jerusalem
5 If you tremble
6 Do you hear that noise
7 Have you ever heard of a woman
10 If you love Jerusalem,
12 The Lord has promised:
14 When you see this happen,
A Threat and a Promise
17 Some of you get yourselves ready and go to a garden to worship a foreign goddess.[k] You eat the meat of pigs, lizards, and mice. But I, the Lord, will destroy you for this.
18 I know everything you do and think! The time has now come[l] to bring together the people of every language and nation and to show them my glory 19 by proving what I can do.[m] I will send the survivors to Tarshish, Pul,[n] Lud, Meshech,[o] Tubal, Javan,[p] and to the distant islands. I will send them to announce my wonderful glory to nations that have never heard about me.
20 They will bring your relatives from the nations as an offering to me, the Lord. They will come on horses, chariots, wagons, mules, and camels[q] to Jerusalem, my holy mountain. It will be like the people of Israel bringing the right offering to my temple. 21 I promise that some of them will be priests and others will be helpers in my temple. I, the Lord, have spoken.
22 I also promise that you will always have descendants and will never be forgotten, just as the new heavens and the new earth that I create will last forever. 23 On the first day of each month and on each Sabbath, everyone will worship me. I, the Lord, have spoken.
24 My people will go out and look at the dead bodies of those who turned against me. The worms there never die, the fire never stops burning, and the sight of those bodies will be disgusting to everyone.
1 Timothy 2 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
How To Pray
2 First of all, I ask you to pray for everyone. Ask God to help and bless them all, and tell God how thankful you are for each of them. 2 Pray for kings and others in power, so that we may live quiet and peaceful lives as we worship and honor God. 3 This kind of prayer is good, and it pleases God our Savior. 4 God wants everyone to be saved and to know the whole truth, which is,
5 There is only one God,
7 This is why God chose me to be a preacher and an apostle of the good news. I am telling the truth. I am not lying. God sent me to teach the Gentiles about faith and truth.
8 I want everyone everywhere to lift innocent hands toward heaven and pray, without being angry or arguing with each other.
9 I would like for women to wear modest and sensible clothes. They should not have fancy hairdos, or wear expensive clothes, or put on jewelry made of gold or pearls. 10 Women who claim to love God should do helpful things for others, 11 and they should learn by being quiet and paying attention. 12 They should be silent and not be allowed to teach or to tell men what to do. 13 After all, Adam was created before Eve, 14 and the man Adam wasn’t the one who was fooled. It was the woman Eve who was completely fooled and sinned. 15 But women will be saved by having children,[a] if they stay faithful, loving, holy, and modest.
