¹⁶ And behold, one came to him and said, ^[a]Teacher, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? ¹⁷ And he said unto him, ^[b]Why askest thou me concerning that which is good? One there is who is good: but if thou wouldest enter into life, keep the commandments. ¹⁸ He saith unto him, Which? And Jesus said, ^[c]Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, ¹⁹ Honor thy father and thy mother; and, ^[d]Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. ²⁰ The young man saith unto him, All these things have I observed: what lack I yet? ²¹ Jesus said unto him, If thou wouldest be perfect, go, sell that which thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. ²² But when the young man heard the saying, he went away sorrowful; for he was one that had great possessions.

¹⁷ And as he was going forth ^[a]into the way, there ran one to him, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? ¹⁸ And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good save one, even God. ¹⁹ Thou knowest the commandments, ^[b]Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor thy father and mother. ²⁰ And he said unto him, Teacher, all these things have I observed from my youth. ²¹ And Jesus looking upon him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. ²² But his countenance fell at the saying, and he went away sorrowful: for he was one that had great possessions.

¹⁸ And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? ¹⁹ And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, even God. ²⁰ Thou knowest the commandments, ^[a]Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor thy father and mother. ²¹ And he said, All these things have I observed from my youth up. ²² And when Jesus heard it, he said unto him, One thing thou lackest yet: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. ²³ But when he heard these things, he became exceeding sorrowful; for he was very rich.
