¹⁴ And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a man, kneeling to him, and saying, ¹⁵ Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is epileptic, and suffereth grievously; for oft-times he falleth into the fire, and oft-times into the water. ¹⁶ And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. ¹⁷ And Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? bring him hither to me. ¹⁸ And Jesus rebuked him; and the demon went out of him: and the boy was cured from that hour.

¹⁹ Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast it out? ²⁰ And he saith unto them, Because of your little faith: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.^[a]

¹⁴ And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great multitude about them, and scribes questioning with them. ¹⁵ And straightway all the multitude, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him. ¹⁶ And he asked them, What question ye with them? ¹⁷ And one of the multitude answered him, Teacher, I brought unto thee my son, who hath a dumb spirit; ¹⁸ and wheresoever it taketh him, it ^[a]dasheth him down: and he foameth, and grindeth his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast it out; and they were not able. ¹⁹ And he answereth them and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? bring him unto me. ²⁰ And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit ^[b]tare him grievously; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming. ²¹ And he asked his father, How long time is it since this hath come unto him? And he said, From a child. ²² And oft-times it hath cast him both into the fire and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do anything, have compassion on us, and help us. ²³ And Jesus said unto him, If thou canst! All things are possible to him that believeth. ²⁴ Straightway the father of the child cried out, and said, ^[c]I believe; help thou mine unbelief. ²⁵ And when Jesus saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I command thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him. ²⁶ And having cried out, and ^[d]torn him much, he came out: and the boy became as one dead; insomuch that the more part said, He is dead. ²⁷ But Jesus took him by the hand, and raised him up; and he arose. ²⁸ And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, ^[e]How is it that we could not cast it out? ²⁹ And he said unto them, This kind can come out by nothing, save by prayer^[f].

³⁷ And it came to pass, on the next day, when they were come down from the mountain, a great multitude met him. ³⁸ And behold, a man from the multitude cried, saying, Teacher, I beseech thee to look upon my son; for he is mine only child: ³⁹ and behold, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it ^[a]teareth him that he foameth, and it hardly departeth from him, bruising him sorely. ⁴⁰ And I besought thy disciples to cast it out; and they could not. ⁴¹ And Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and bear with you? bring hither thy son. ⁴² And as he was yet a coming, the demon ^[b]dashed him down, and ^[c]tare him grievously. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father. ⁴³ And they were all astonished at the majesty of God.

But while all were marvelling at all the things which he did, he said unto his disciples,

⁶ And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye would say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou rooted up, and be thou planted in the sea; and it would obey you.
