³⁷ He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. ³⁸ And he that doth not take his cross and follow after me, is not worthy of me. ³⁹ He that ^[a]findeth his life shall lose it; and he that ^[b]loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

²⁵ Now there went with him great multitudes: and he turned, and said unto them, ²⁶ If any man cometh unto me, and hateth not his own father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. ²⁷ Whosoever doth not bear his own cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

³³ Whosoever shall seek to gain his life shall lose it: but whosoever shall lose his life shall ^[a]preserve it.

²⁵ He that loveth his ^[a]life loseth it; and he that hateth his ^[b]life in this world shall keep it unto ^[c]life eternal.
