7 What then? What the people of Israel sought so earnestly they did not obtain.(A) The elect among them did, but the others were hardened,(B) 8 as it is written:
“God gave them a spirit of stupor,
eyes that could not see
and ears that could not hear,(C)
to this very day.”[a](D)
9 And David says:
“May their table become a snare and a trap,
a stumbling block and a retribution for them.
10 May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see,(E)
and their backs be bent forever.”[b](F)
Ingrafted Branches
11 Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all!(G) Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles(H) to make Israel envious.(I) 12 But if their transgression means riches for the world, and their loss means riches for the Gentiles,(J) how much greater riches will their full inclusion bring!
13 I am talking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles,(K) I take pride in my ministry 14 in the hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy(L) and save(M) some of them. 15 For if their rejection brought reconciliation(N) to the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?(O) 16 If the part of the dough offered as firstfruits(P) is holy, then the whole batch is holy; if the root is holy, so are the branches.

Eyes to see not and ears to hear not,
Down to this very day.”
9 And David says,
“(D)May their table become a snare and a trap,
And a stumbling block and a retribution to them.
10 (E)May their eyes be darkened to see not,
And bend their backs continually.”
11 (F)I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall, did they? [b](G)Far from it! But by their wrongdoing (H)salvation has come to the Gentiles, to (I)make them jealous. 12 Now if their wrongdoing proves to be riches for the world, and their failure, riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their [c](J)fulfillment be! 13 But I am speaking to you who are Gentiles. Therefore insofar as (K)I am an apostle of Gentiles, I magnify my ministry 14 if somehow I may (L)move (M)my [d]own people to jealousy and (N)save some of them. 15 For if their rejection proves to be the (O)reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but (P)life from the dead? 16 If the (Q)first piece of dough is holy, the lump is also; and if the root is holy, the branches are as well.
