The Second Beast

¹¹ Then ^(A)I saw another beast rising out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb and it spoke like a dragon. ¹² It exercises all the authority of the first beast in its presence,^[a] and makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, ^(B)whose mortal wound was healed. ^13 (C)It performs great signs, even ^(D)making fire come down from heaven to earth in front of people, ¹⁴ and by the signs that it is allowed to work in the presence of^[b] the beast ^(E)it deceives those who dwell on earth, telling them to make an image for the beast ^(F)that was wounded by the sword and yet lived. ¹⁵ And it was allowed to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast might even speak and might cause those who would not ^(G)worship the image of the beast ^(H)to be slain.

¹³ And I saw, coming out of the mouth of ^(A)the dragon and out of the mouth of ^(B)the beast and out of the mouth of ^(C)the false prophet, three ^(D)unclean spirits like ^(E)frogs.

⁹ And the angel said^[a] to me, “Write this: ^(A)Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, ^(B)“These are the true words of God.” ¹⁰ Then ^(C)I fell down at his feet to worship him, ^(D)but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to ^(E)the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Jesus Is Coming

⁶ And he said to me, ^(A)“These words are trustworthy and true. And the Lord, the God of ^(B)the spirits of the prophets, ^(C)has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place.”

⁷ “And behold, ^(D)I am coming soon. ^(E)Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”

⁸ I, ^(F)John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, ^(G)I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me, ^9 (H)but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those ^(I)who keep the words of this book. Worship God.”

¹⁸ I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: ^(A)if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, ¹⁹ and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in ^(B)the tree of life and in ^(C)the holy city, which are described in this book.

²⁰ He who testifies to these things says, “Surely ^(D)I am coming soon.” Amen. ^(E)Come, Lord Jesus!
