Psalm 82

A Plea for Justice

A Psalm of Asaph.

82 God ^(A)stands in the congregation of ^[a]the mighty;
He judges among ^(B)the ^[b]gods.
²How long will you judge unjustly,
And ^(C)show partiality to the wicked? Selah
³^[c]Defend the poor and fatherless;
Do justice to the afflicted and ^(D)needy.
⁴Deliver the poor and needy;
Free them from the hand of the wicked.

⁵They do not know, nor do they understand;
They walk about in darkness;
All the ^(E)foundations of the earth are ^[d]unstable.

⁶I said, ^(F)“You are ^[e]gods,
And all of you are children of the Most High.
⁷But you shall die like men,
And fall like one of the princes.”

⁸Arise, O God, judge the earth;
^(G)For You shall inherit all nations.

Ezekiel 15

The Outcast Vine

15 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: ²“Son of man, how is the wood of the vine better than any other wood, the vine branch which is among the trees of the forest? ³Is wood taken from it to make any object? Or can men make a peg from it to hang any vessel on? ⁴Instead, ^(A)it is thrown into the fire for fuel; the fire devours both ends of it, and its middle is burned. Is it useful for any work? ⁵Indeed, when it was whole, no object could be made from it. How much less will it be useful for any work when the fire has devoured it, and it is burned?

⁶“Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Like the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so I will give up the inhabitants of Jerusalem; ⁷and ^(B)I will set My face against them. ^(C)They will go out from one fire, but another fire shall devour them. ^(D)Then you shall know that I am the Lord, when I set My face against them. ⁸Thus I will make the land desolate, because they have persisted in unfaithfulness,’ says the Lord God.”
