⁴ Turn, O Lord, deliver my life;
    save me for the sake of your steadfast love.
⁵ For in ^(H)death there is no remembrance of you;
    in Sheol who will give you praise?

⁶ I am ^(I)weary with my ^(J)moaning;
    every night I flood my bed with tears;
    I drench my couch with my weeping.
⁷ My ^(K)eye wastes away because of grief;
    it grows weak because of all my foes.

^8 (L)Depart from me, all you ^(M)workers of evil,
    for the Lord ^(N)has heard the sound of my weeping.
⁹ The Lord has heard my ^(O)plea;
    the Lord accepts my prayer.
¹⁰ All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly troubled;
    they shall ^(P)turn back and be put to shame in a moment.

² In arrogance the wicked hotly pursue the poor;
    let them ^(D)be caught in the schemes that they have devised.
³ For the wicked ^(E)boasts of the desires of his soul,
    and the one greedy for gain ^(F)curses^[a] and ^(G)renounces the Lord.
⁴ In the pride of his face^[b] the wicked does not ^(H)seek him;^[c]
    all his thoughts are, ^(I)“There is no God.”
⁵ His ways prosper at all times;
    your judgments are on high, ^(J)out of his sight;
    as for all his foes, he ^(K)puffs at them.
⁶ He ^(L)says in his heart, “I shall not be moved;
    throughout all generations I ^(M)shall not meet adversity.”
^7 (N)His mouth is filled with cursing and ^(O)deceit and ^(P)oppression;
    ^(Q)under his tongue are ^(R)mischief and ^(S)iniquity.
⁸ He sits in ambush in the villages;
    in ^(T)hiding places he murders the innocent.
His eyes stealthily watch for the helpless;
⁹     he lurks in ambush like ^(U)a lion in his ^(V)thicket;
he ^(W)lurks that he may seize the poor;
    he seizes the poor when he draws him into his ^(X)net.
¹⁰ The helpless are crushed, sink down,
    and fall by his might.
¹¹ He says in his heart, “God has forgotten,
    he has ^(Y)hidden his face, he ^(Z)will never see it.”

^12 (AA)Arise, O Lord; O God, ^(AB)lift up your hand;
    ^(AC)forget not the afflicted.
¹³ Why does the wicked ^(AD)renounce God
    and say in his heart, “You will not ^(AE)call to account”?
¹⁴ But you do see, for you ^(AF)note mischief and vexation,
    that you may take it into your hands;
to you the helpless ^(AG)commits himself;
    you have been ^(AH)the helper of the fatherless.
^15 (AI)Break the arm of the wicked and evildoer;
    ^(AJ)call his wickedness to account till you find none.

^16 (AK)The Lord is king forever and ever;
    the ^(AL)nations perish from his land.
¹⁷ O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted;
    you will ^(AM)strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear
¹⁸ to ^(AN)do justice to the fatherless and ^(AO)the oppressed,
    so that ^(AP)man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.

³ There is ^(E)no soundness in my flesh
    because of your indignation;
there is no health in my ^(F)bones
    because of my sin.
⁴ For my ^(G)iniquities have gone over my head;
    like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me.

⁵ My wounds stink and fester
    because of my foolishness,
⁶ I am ^(H)utterly bowed down and ^(I)prostrate;
    all the day I ^(J)go about mourning.
⁷ For my sides are filled with burning,
    and there is ^(K)no soundness in my flesh.
⁸ I am feeble and crushed;
    I ^(L)groan because of the tumult of my heart.

⁹ O Lord, all my longing is before you;
    my ^(M)sighing is not hidden from you.
¹⁰ My heart throbs; my strength fails me,
    and ^(N)the light of my eyes—it also has gone from me.
¹¹ My ^(O)friends and companions ^(P)stand aloof from my ^(Q)plague,
    and my nearest kin ^(R)stand far off.

¹² Those who seek my life ^(S)lay their snares;
    those who seek my hurt ^(T)speak of ruin
    and meditate ^(U)treachery all day long.

¹³ But I am like a deaf man; I do not hear,
    like ^(V)a mute man who does not open his mouth.
¹⁴ I have become like a man who does not hear,
    and in whose mouth are no ^(W)rebukes.

¹⁵ But for ^(X)you, O Lord, do I wait;
    it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer.
¹⁶ For I said, “Only ^(Y)let them not rejoice over me,
    who ^(Z)boast against me when my ^(AA)foot slips!”

¹⁷ For I am ^(AB)ready to fall,
    and my pain is ever before me.
¹⁸ I ^(AC)confess my iniquity;
    I am ^(AD)sorry for my sin.
¹⁹ But my foes are vigorous, they are mighty,
    and many are those who hate me ^(AE)wrongfully.
²⁰ Those who ^(AF)render me evil for good
    ^(AG)accuse me because I ^(AH)follow after good.

²¹ Do not forsake me, O Lord!
    O my God, be not ^(AI)far from me!
^22 (AJ)Make haste to help me,
    O Lord, my ^(AK)salvation!

^4 (E)Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked,
    from the grasp of the unjust and cruel man.
⁵ For you, O Lord, are my ^(F)hope,
    my trust, O Lord, from my youth.
⁶ Upon you I have leaned ^(G)from before my birth;
    you are he who ^(H)took me from my mother's womb.
My praise is continually of you.

⁷ I have been as ^(I)a portent to many,
    but you are my strong refuge.
⁸ My ^(J)mouth is filled with your praise,
    and with your glory all the day.
^9 (K)Do not cast me off in the time of old age;
    forsake me not when my strength is spent.
¹⁰ For my enemies speak concerning me;
    those who ^(L)watch for my life ^(M)consult together
¹¹ and say, “God has forsaken him;
    pursue and seize him,
    for there is none to deliver him.”

¹² O God, be not ^(N)far from me;
    O my God, ^(O)make haste to help me!
¹³ May my accusers be ^(P)put to shame and consumed;
    ^(Q)with scorn and disgrace may they be covered
    who ^(R)seek my hurt.
¹⁴ But I will ^(S)hope continually
    and will ^(T)praise you yet more and more.
¹⁵ My ^(U)mouth will tell of your righteous acts,
    of your deeds of salvation all the day,
    for ^(V)their number is past my knowledge.
¹⁶ With the mighty deeds of the Lord God I will come;
    I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone.

¹⁷ O God, from my youth you have taught me,
    and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds.
¹⁸ So even to ^(W)old age and gray hairs,
    O God, ^(X)do not forsake me,
until I proclaim your might to another generation,
    your power to all those to come.
¹⁹ Your ^(Y)righteousness, O God,
    reaches the high heavens.
You who have done ^(Z)great things,
    O God, ^(AA)who is like you?
²⁰ You who have ^(AB)made me see many troubles and calamities
    will ^(AC)revive me again;
from the depths of the earth
    you will bring me up again.
²¹ You will increase my greatness
    and comfort me again.

²² I will also praise you with ^(AD)the harp
    for your faithfulness, O my God;
I will sing praises to you with the lyre,
    O ^(AE)Holy One of Israel.
²³ My lips will shout for joy,
    when I sing praises to you;
    my soul also, which you have ^(AF)redeemed.
²⁴ And my ^(AG)tongue will talk of your righteous help all the day long,
for they have been ^(AH)put to shame and disappointed
    who sought to do me hurt.
