God’s Rescue of Israel from Egypt.

114 When Israel went forth (A)from Egypt,
The house of Jacob from a people of a (B)foreign language,
Judah became (C)His sanctuary;
Israel, (D)His dominion.

The (E)sea looked and fled;
The (F)Jordan turned back.
The mountains (G)skipped like rams,
The hills, like lambs.
What (H)ails you, sea, that you flee?
Jordan, that you turn back?
Mountains, that you skip like rams?
Hills, like lambs?

(I)Tremble, earth, before the Lord,
Before the God of Jacob,
Who (J)turned the rock into a (K)pool of water,
The (L)flint into a fountain of water.

Heathen Idols Contrasted with the Lord.

115 (M)Not to us, Lord, not to us,
But (N)to Your name give glory,
Because of Your mercy, because of Your [a]truth.
(O)Why should the nations say,
(P)Where, then, is their God?”
But our (Q)God is in the heavens;
He (R)does whatever He pleases.
Their (S)idols are silver and gold,
The (T)work of human hands.
They have mouths, but they (U)cannot speak;
They have eyes, but they cannot see;
They have ears, but they cannot hear;
They have noses, but they cannot smell;
[b]They have hands, but they cannot feel;
[c]They have feet, but they cannot walk;
They cannot make a sound with their throat.
(V)Those who make them [d]will become like them,
Everyone who trusts in them.

(W)Israel, (X)trust in the Lord;
He is their (Y)help and their shield.
10 House of (Z)Aaron, trust in the Lord;
He is their help and their shield.
11 You who [e](AA)fear the Lord, trust in the Lord;
He is their help and their shield.
12 The Lord (AB)has been mindful of us; He will bless us.
He will bless the house of Israel;
He will bless the house of Aaron.
13 He will (AC)bless those who [f]fear the Lord,
(AD)The small together with the great.
14 May the Lord (AE)increase you,
You and your children.
15 May you be blessed of the Lord,
(AF)Maker of heaven and earth.

16 The heavens are (AG)the heavens of the Lord,
But (AH)the earth He has given to the sons of mankind.
17 The (AI)dead do not praise [g]the Lord,
Nor do any who go down into (AJ)silence;
18 But as for us, we will (AK)bless [h]the Lord
From this time and forever.
[i]Praise [j]the Lord!

Thanksgiving for Rescue from Death.

116 (AL)I love the Lord, because He (AM)hears
My voice and my pleas.
Because He has (AN)inclined His ear to me,
Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.
The (AO)snares of death encompassed me
And the [k]terrors of [l]Sheol [m]came upon me;
I found distress and sorrow.
Then (AP)I called upon the name of the Lord:
“Please, Lord, (AQ)save my [n]life!”

(AR)Gracious is the Lord, and (AS)righteous;
Yes, our God is (AT)compassionate.
The Lord watches over (AU)the simple;
I was (AV)brought low, and He saved me.
Return to your (AW)rest, my soul,
For the Lord has (AX)dealt generously with you.
For You have (AY)rescued my soul from death,
My eyes from tears,
And my feet from stumbling.
I shall walk before the Lord
In the [o](AZ)land of the living.
10 I (BA)believed when I said,
“I am (BB)greatly afflicted.”
11 I (BC)said in my alarm,
(BD)All people are liars.”

12 What shall I (BE)repay to the Lord
For all His (BF)benefits [p]to me?
13 I will lift up the (BG)cup of salvation,
And (BH)call upon the name of the Lord.
14 I will (BI)pay my vows to the Lord;
May it be (BJ)in the presence of all His people!
15 (BK)Precious in the sight of the Lord
Is the death of His godly ones.
16 O Lord, [q]I surely am (BL)Your slave,
I am Your slave, the (BM)son of Your female slave,
You have (BN)unfastened my restraints.
17 I will offer You (BO)a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And (BP)call upon the name of the Lord.
18 I will (BQ)pay my vows to the Lord,
May it be in the presence of all His people,
19 In the (BR)courtyards of the Lords house,
In the midst of you, (BS)Jerusalem!
[r]Praise [s]the Lord!

Psalm 114

When Israel came out of Egypt,(A)
    Jacob from a people of foreign tongue,
Judah(B) became God’s sanctuary,(C)
    Israel his dominion.

The sea looked and fled,(D)
    the Jordan turned back;(E)
the mountains leaped(F) like rams,
    the hills like lambs.

Why was it, sea, that you fled?(G)
    Why, Jordan, did you turn back?
Why, mountains, did you leap like rams,
    you hills, like lambs?

Tremble, earth,(H) at the presence of the Lord,
    at the presence of the God of Jacob,
who turned the rock into a pool,
    the hard rock into springs of water.(I)

Psalm 115(J)

Not to us, Lord, not to us
    but to your name be the glory,(K)
    because of your love and faithfulness.(L)

Why do the nations say,
    “Where is their God?”(M)
Our God is in heaven;(N)
    he does whatever pleases him.(O)
But their idols are silver and gold,(P)
    made by human hands.(Q)
They have mouths, but cannot speak,(R)
    eyes, but cannot see.
They have ears, but cannot hear,
    noses, but cannot smell.
They have hands, but cannot feel,
    feet, but cannot walk,
    nor can they utter a sound with their throats.
Those who make them will be like them,
    and so will all who trust in them.

All you Israelites, trust(S) in the Lord
    he is their help and shield.
10 House of Aaron,(T) trust in the Lord
    he is their help and shield.
11 You who fear him,(U) trust in the Lord
    he is their help and shield.

12 The Lord remembers(V) us and will bless us:(W)
    He will bless his people Israel,
    he will bless the house of Aaron,
13 he will bless those who fear(X) the Lord
    small and great alike.

14 May the Lord cause you to flourish,(Y)
    both you and your children.
15 May you be blessed by the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven(Z) and earth.

16 The highest heavens belong to the Lord,(AA)
    but the earth he has given(AB) to mankind.
17 It is not the dead(AC) who praise the Lord,
    those who go down to the place of silence;
18 it is we who extol the Lord,(AD)
    both now and forevermore.(AE)

Praise the Lord.[a](AF)

Psalm 116

I love the Lord,(AG) for he heard my voice;
    he heard my cry(AH) for mercy.(AI)
Because he turned his ear(AJ) to me,
    I will call on him as long as I live.

The cords of death(AK) entangled me,
    the anguish of the grave came over me;
    I was overcome by distress and sorrow.
Then I called on the name(AL) of the Lord:
    Lord, save me!(AM)

The Lord is gracious and righteous;(AN)
    our God is full of compassion.(AO)
The Lord protects the unwary;
    when I was brought low,(AP) he saved me.(AQ)

Return to your rest,(AR) my soul,
    for the Lord has been good(AS) to you.

For you, Lord, have delivered me(AT) from death,
    my eyes from tears,
    my feet from stumbling,
that I may walk before the Lord(AU)
    in the land of the living.(AV)

10 I trusted(AW) in the Lord when I said,
    “I am greatly afflicted”;(AX)
11 in my alarm I said,
    “Everyone is a liar.”(AY)

12 What shall I return to the Lord
    for all his goodness(AZ) to me?

13 I will lift up the cup of salvation
    and call on the name(BA) of the Lord.
14 I will fulfill my vows(BB) to the Lord
    in the presence of all his people.

15 Precious in the sight(BC) of the Lord
    is the death of his faithful servants.(BD)
16 Truly I am your servant, Lord;(BE)
    I serve you just as my mother did;(BF)
    you have freed me from my chains.(BG)

17 I will sacrifice a thank offering(BH) to you
    and call on the name of the Lord.
18 I will fulfill my vows(BI) to the Lord
    in the presence of all his people,
19 in the courts(BJ) of the house of the Lord
    in your midst, Jerusalem.(BK)

Praise the Lord.[b]
