³⁰ “Anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate^(A) them so they may serve me as priests.^{(B) 31} Say to the Israelites, ‘This is to be my sacred anointing oil^(C) for the generations to come.^{(D) 32} Do not pour it on anyone else’s body and do not make any other oil using the same formula. It is sacred, and you are to consider it sacred.^{(E) 33} Whoever makes perfume like it and puts it on anyone other than a priest must be cut off^(F) from their people.’”

¹⁰ Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, “The Lord has not chosen these.” ¹¹ So he asked Jesse, “Are these all^(A) the sons you have?”

“There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.”^(B)

Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.”

¹² So he^(C) sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome^(D) features.

Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.”

¹³ So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed^(E) him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord^(F) came powerfully upon David.^(G) Samuel then went to Ramah.

⁴¹ The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ).^(A)
